UTET is the fourth book publishing group in Italy, and is made up of
the following components: Utet S.p.A., which exercises 100 per cent control
over Petrini, Garzanti Grandi Opere, and Utet Libreria. Recently, two
subdivisions have also been created: Utet Periodici and Garzanti Linguistica.
The Group also owns a stake of 20 per cent in Garzanti Libri.
In the financial year from 1.4.1999 to 31.3.2000, the
Group’s consolidated balance sheet shows sales figures of 129,7million
euro, with an operational margin of approximately 10,7 million Euro,
an increase of 34 per cent on the previous financial year, and a net income
of approximately 9,3 million Euro, up by 49 per cent.
The UTET Group’s core business remains traditional publishing, although
the challenges linked to Internet are already being met with the cultural
portal: www.piazzadante.it.
UTET’s publications are divided into four principal areas, each with
a range of titles available on CD and DVD ROM: reference (Utet, Garzanti
Grandi Opere), legal and medical (Utet, Utet Libreria, Utet Periodici),
educational, i.e. school books (Petrini) and Italian and foreign language
dictionaries, equipped with multimedia tools (Garzanti Linguistica).
