The publication

Despite the enormous amount of literature on the subject, few texts are dedicated to a theme as delicate and as current as the construction of the identity of the disabled person within the family and the emotional and psychological dynamics which are created within a family living with a disabled person.
L’uovo fuori dal cesto offers a broad insight into the subject, illustrating ways of intervention and prevention of mental illness in the family, the question of communication, integration into the education system, as well as describing working experiences and parents’ difficulties.
This volume, edited by Elio Tesio working with psychologists and authors from other professional fields, focuses on questions and doubts which are important in the work with disabled people and highlights the people and problems surrounding disability.

"The underlying theme of all the sections is a pair of opposites, a dramatic dilemma which involves parents, professionals and all those concerned with the disabled: how can we conciliate deeply contrasting feelings every time we deal with a disabled person? On the one hand is the feeling of powerlessness, on the other, the desire to find a "remedy"; again on the one hand, the wish to be helpful, on the other, the burden of having to be there."
