Petrini Editore is a publishing house founded in 1872 and fully owned by Utet SpA since 1990. Its subsidiaries - Garzanti Scuola, Marietti Scuola, Valmartina, Liviana, Theorema Libri, Le Stelle - operate solely in the area of educational publishing. The Turin head office and Milan branch office are manned by a staff of 67. A network of some 25 sales agencies supply around 3000 bookshops and wholesalers. International relations are aimed at securing foreign language texts for resale, arranging joint publications with prominent French and English-speaking partners, and selling the rights to the international version of language learning texts. In terms of national market shares, Petrini Editore holds 6.5% of the high school and 3.2% of the primary school markets. Overall it is fifth on the league table of Italian educational publishers. The total net turnover for 1999 amount to over 50 billion liras and the estimated turnover for the year 2000 remains unchanged. The turnover breakdown shows 8% of sales in the primary school area, 42% in junior high school, and 50% in senior high school. The Petrini trademark accounts for over 55% of the turnover while Garzanti Scuola, Marietti and Theorema Libri represent over 10% each. Petrini is a market leader in English language and music texts, beside enjoying a solid reputation for its Latin, maths, history and geography publications.
