Clay brick is an ancient material which seemed destinated to be
supplanted by concrete and steel, and relegated to a secondary role
in the construction of more modest buildings.
However, like wood, brick too has been granted a new lease of life
over the last few years.
Following vogue for technologically modern concrete, steel, and
glass, there has been a critical backlash against the coldness of
these materials; there is now a preference for the warmth of brick
which is currently used on unplastered façades.
Today, the properties of this ancient material need to be adapted
to modern structural, safety and environmental requirements.
The volume deals with brick-built constructions from all points
of view: the technical aspects, the formal possibilities, thermal
and acoustic insulation, fire-safety, damp protection, and more.
