Up until the Nineteenth Century the use of glass i building was
restricted to doors and windows. Today, however, it is recognized
as one of the most versatile building material, as for example in
the construction of office blocks. It is now also possible to use
glass as a structural material, without supporting frameworks; whilst
sheet-glass has become an essential element in modern bio-climatic
architecture, due to the possibility of saving considerable energy
