In line with the Dizionari di Architettura series, this publication is arranged in alphabetical order and covers a wide range of subjects relevant to construction elements. The detailed and fully illustrated entries cover technical information (features, procedures, etc.), as well as components and their use (types, examples, etc.).
The elements of construction include:
- basic construction elements or their single components (e.g. pillar, capital, stairs, steps, etc.)
- composite construction elements formed by more than one basic element (e.g. floor)
- complex construction elements which are (or may be) autonomous architectural structures (e.g. dome, bay window)
- elements with formal particularities (or synonyms of elements already known)
- descriptions of particular work or production procedures
Each single entry is characterised by a theme structure which aims to facilitate consultation of the element in question. At the end of each entry there are service sections which provide the reader with operational indications and practical suggestions, particularly regarding planning.
