The publication maintains the same layout as the Trattato di Restauro
Architettonico (UTET), of which it constitutes the continuation and further
analysis of one of its themes: the integration of installations in historic
buildings, a topic of undoubted interest in Italy. Even so the volume
can also be considered an accomplished work in its own right, independent
of or complementary to the Trattato.
This work does not aim to offer preconceived and ready-to-use solutions,
neither is it an indication of a particular doctrinal school of thought;
it is rather an aid to helping the reader create him/herself a solid methodology,
offering tools, information, competence and materials for a personal education
on the subject.
The work contains a general part (with reference to the specifics of restoration
and the related problems of recovery, rehabilitation, cultural heritage,
construction patrimony, etc.) on historical as well as physical and technical
research. There is a part on standards, technology and application (which
covers various installations including bio-climatic). Another section
examines how to integrate pre-existing installations (a recurrent theme
throughout the publication), as well as planning stages and work, taking
the reader through to the work site (including assessments and costs).
The is completed by a section dedicated to installations in the archaeological
field and a wide range of inserts illustrating in detail some recent work
worth noting in installation and restoration profiles (work carried out
on complex and monumental buildings from the Renaissance to the present).
A final chapter illustrates and comments Italian and European standards.
As in the Trattato, this publication contains a vast range of quality
illustrations which accompany the text and provide a more complete treatment
of the subject, on the one hand analytical and systematic, on the other
concise and rapid.
No text exists to compete directly with this one, since the topic has
so far been treated in a distinct manner, without no overview of architectural
restoration in connection with construction installations.
The 's strong points are its broad, systematic treatment of the subject,
the wealth of illustrations, appendices and indices, its link to the Trattato
di Restauro Architettonico, and the lack of comparable works. The publication
also fills a publishing gap in an innovative way and responds to the contemporary
needs of professionals.
