The Dizionario di Arte offers a complete survey of artistic terminology from ancient times to the present day. By studying the sources (critics’, historians’, artists’, collectors’ works), the authors have assembled and offered a critical analysis of the meanings that the theoretical and technical terms of art and archaeology have assumed.
The Dizionario di Arte defines and explains 6,000 terms, and in so doing provides a historical and critical perspective on concepts of art, interpretative categories, subjects, and artistic movements. It classifies and describes in detail the terminology used for styles, utensils and techniques.
This is a completely revised edition of the Dizionario della Critica d’Arte published in 1978.
