APPIAN - The History of Rome
Books XIII - XVII. The Civil Wars
(APPIANO - La Storia di Roma)

The publication

The five books on the civil wars constitute the core of Appian's History of Rome and cover the period from 133 BC to 36 BC. Appian, a Greek author of Hellenistic background, narrates in detail some of the crucial events which transformed Rome from a republic to a principality and then, with the Empire, to a monarchy, according to the author, the most natural form of government for so vast a territory. The Greek text of this edition has undergone philological revision and is accompanied by a clear parallel translation. There is also a detailed introduction and a sombre but clear historical commentary.
