ODISSEY
(Odissea)

The publication
This new edition of the Odyssey, one of the greatest poetic masterpieces
of all time, endeavours to combine philological purity with ease
of expression. It represents an attempt to bring the poem closer
to the contemporary reader's tastes, and at the same time, draw
the reader to appreciate the rhythm and inflexions of the Greek
language. The Greek text and the parallel translation in Italian
are preceded by an Introduction which provides a critical account
of the most recent interpretations of Ulysses as a character. Accurate
notes underline the typical forms of the oral tradition and bring
to light the relationships between and the meanings of events, characters
and places revealing the complex plot of Homer's poem.
The author
Franco Ferrari is associate professor of Greek language and literature
at the Class of Letters and Philosophy at the Scuola Normale, Pisa.
