The publication
This volume aims to further the knowledge of the extraordinarily
complex world of religious forms among North American Indians. Their
richness and depth can be approached and investigated thanks to
the direct personal testimonies of men and women. Far from being
the stereotypes portrayed by the cinema and literature with images
of plumed warriors with long flowing plaits, galloping on horseback
and wearing brightly coloured costumes, native Americans talk about
their experiences and their memories, their knowledge, their hopes
and their doubts. Such accounts at first sight may seem to distance
these peoples from us because of their culture and lifestyle, but
in reality they bring them closer to us in that their testimonies
show us the inner side of human nature.
