THE DICTIONARY OF PHILOSOPHY
(Dizionario di Filosofia - by Nicola Abbagnano.
Third edition revised with additional material by Giovanni Fornero)
Nicola
Abbagnano’s Dizionario gives the reader a complete overview of thought
and its language from Ancient Greece to the Present. By showing
how some possibilities have been developed and exhausted, and others
insufficiently processed and shelved, this publication provides
a report on philosophy from the viewpoint of current speculation.
All entries have been written with an eye to the consistant use
of terminlogy.
The additions to the third edition, compared to the previous one,
are considerable. There are ample paragraphs updating existing articles,
completely new articles (for example, Bio-ethics, Artificial Intelligence,
Analytical/Continental Philosophy).
This work is famous for its clarity, conceptual depth, range of
judgement on philosophy through the ages, and homogeneity, all of
which have been preserved in this new edition. As well as Giovanni
Fornero, some forty scholars have contributed, including Eco, Vattimo,
Cacciari, Bodei, Givone, Volpi, Giorello and Bottazzini.
