THE HISTORY OF ITALY
(Storia d'Italia directed by Giuseppe Galasso)

The Storia d’Italia is the result of rigorous research which has
supplied original contributions to historians’ debates and offers
a comprehensive account of the varoius stages and features of our
national history.
The Storia d’Italia, as explained in Giuseppe Galasso’s introductory
volume, examines Italian history from a socio-political viewpoint.
It also undertakes a full historiographical reconstruction of the
real components of the various "Italian histories": the
pre-unification States, the regions, the cities.
Such a reconstruction highlights the characteristic regional fragmentation
even after unification, and at the same time, acknowledges the undeniably
common civic and cultural attitudes before unification.
Each volume in the Storia d’Italia series forms part of an overall
project, but at the same time represents an individual work pertaining
to a historical period and a region.
The series is clear in both style and design, and constitutes a
critical presentation of events that interest not only history lovers,
but anyone who wishes to clarify the question of "Italy"
from a historiographical point of view.
The volumes contain a total of approximately 12,000 richly illustrated
pages.
