PRIMA – ILLUSTRATED APPROACHES TO LEARNING
(Prima Percorsi e Immagini per conoscere)

The way in which we perceive the world when we are children remains
with us for the rest of our lives. Prima, Percorsi e immagini per
conoscere guides children as they start to discover the world; it
satisfies their thirst for knowledge, their curiosity, their need
to understand.
As an easy-to-consult, richly illustrated publication, Prima sees
the universe through the eyes of children.
Prima can be used to study and carry out school projects, but it
also arouses curiosity and stimulates interests.
The whole publication is arranged so as to highlight the connections
between subjects and the links between issues, encouraging an interdisciplinary
approach right from the earliest years.
Prima uses highly visual "language", thanks to over 15,000
colour illustrations (photographs, diagrams, and pictures drawn
by some of the best illustrators). The images are useful in elucidating
concepts, ideas, complex formulae, and they constitute a direct
link to the text.
Prima is made up of ten large-format volumes, and is divided into
two parts: an eight-volume section in themes, and a two volume alphabetic
section (for a total of 5,000 pages).
The development of the themes is charged through four general areas:
the natural environment
the man-made environment
the social environment
language, culture and communication
At the end of each volume is a section known as the Fourth Dimension
which examines the topics from a historical point of view.
The alphabetic section has been devised to work as an index to the
first eight volumes and, at the same time, an encyclopaedic dictionary
which can be used separately.
Prima is printed entirely on recycled paper.
